PASSING OF HONEY BROOK LIFE MEMBER OSCAR WELSH

Oscar R. Welsh, 84 years, of Honey Brook, died on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at his home, following an illness.

He was born in West Brandywine Twp., Chester Co. on March 24, 1925. He was the son of the late Charles G. & Mae (Trumbower) Welsh. He was the husband of Susann H. (Erskine) Welsh, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.

Oscar retired after working 23 years as a truck driver with Pepperidge Farms of Downingtown. He proudly served his country in the US Army during WW II, ending his service in Guam. He was a lifetime member of the Honey Brook Fire Company, where he served as a driver for both fire and ambulance. Oscar was also a member of the Honey Brook Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Wawassan Post # 422.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Arthur, Roy, Albert, Gilbert, George, Harvey, and Calvin Welsh, Stella Taggart, Evelina Welsh, Mary Byerly, and Helen Stoltzfus.

Oscar is survived by his son, Scott A. and his wife Clara Welsh of Honey Brook; a daughter, Nancy E. and her husband Kevin Messner of Gordonville; a sister, Esther Speakman of Lebanon; 7 grandchildren, Corey, Cody, Shane, Shannon Messner, Fawne Kanteh, Jessica and Matthew Welsh; and a great granddaughter, Aliya Kanteh.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 11 AM at Honey Brook Presbyterian Church, 4510 Horseshoe Pike, Honey Brook, with Rev. William J. Wisneski officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the memory of Oscar to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Eastern PA Chapter, 225 City Line Ave., Suite # 104, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004 or the Honey Brook Presbyterian Church Building Fund, PO Box 276, Honey Brook, PA 19344-0276.
